MabesyBlue: A New Kind of Kids Clothing

I never set out to start a kidswear brand. I started out drawing cats.
Sketches that sat in a notebook for months before I did anything with them. But the more I looked at kids clothing on the high street, the more I noticed the same thing everywhere. Same prints. Same characters. Nothing that felt like a real person had made it.
So I decided to change that.
What MabesyBlue Actually Is
MabesyBlue is an independent kidswear brand built entirely around original cat illustrations. Every character starts as a hand drawn sketch before it ever reaches a sweatshirt. No stock graphics. No mass produced prints pulled from a catalogue. Just proper illustration, turned into proper clothing.

Where It Actually Started
Before any of this, I trained as a fashion designer. My first business, Kelliejo, was designing women’s club wear. Sketch, cut, sew, the whole process of turning an idea into something someone actually wears. It’s the part of my career that’s always stayed closest to my heart, even through the years I spent building other people’s brands and my photography.
Starting MabesyBlue feels like coming back to where I started. A full circle moment. Fashion design was my first love, and kidswear is where I get to bring it back, this time with my own characters leading the way.
Why Cats
Cats are what I love. I’ve always been brought up with dogs, black labs Betsie and Sally, but since getting Mabel our serious tuxedo and the Blue our spicy tabby, I am fully obsessed! Each cat character has its own personality, its own name, its own small story. Violette, our unicorn winged kitty, is the first of many.
Designed Properly. Worn Hard.
That’s the whole philosophy behind this brand. Kidswear needs to survive real life. Scrunching. Spilling. Endless washing. So everything we make is built to hold up, not just look good on a hanger.
What’s Coming Next
Right now, MabesyBlue is still very much in progress. New character designs. New sweatshirt styles. New little details I’m figuring out as I go. I know fashion. I know branding. But building a brand of my own, from nothing, is still a different thing entirely.
